We are often asked how to upload an existing PowerPoint or other visual presentation to a course along with audio. This can be an effective way to take materials that you have used to teach in-person and convert them into a multi-media online learning step.

There are lots of ways to accomplish this, depending on the format of your slides and how you want your learners to interact with them. Here's an overview of several methods for adding your slideshow.

Two read-only methods

  1. Attach your presentation file. Use a Files Block to upload your file. Learners can preview the file or download to their device. Save your presentation as a PDF file before uploading if you do not want to allow learners to edit the file after downloading.

  2. Embed your PowerPoint, KeyNote, GoogleSlides, SlideShare, or Prezi presentation using an an Embed Block. You can embed your PowerPoint by hosting it on Google Slides, or by saving it as a PDF and then uploading it to Scribd, which will give you a secure embed code.

Voice-over video presentations

  • Most versions of PowerPoint allow you to add voice-over to a presentation. Search Google for help if you don't know how to add voice-over in your version.

  • KeyNote also allows you to record and add audio to a presentation. Find instructions for adding audio to KeyNote and saving your file as a video file type here.

  • After adding the voice-over, save the file as a video file type such as .mp4, .mov, or .m4v (up to 1.5GB), then upload it to a Video Block.

Presentation with separate audio

  • Record your audio and upload the audio file to an Audio Block.

  • Embed or attach your PowerPoint, KeyNote, SlideShare, or Prezi presentation on the same page along with the audio. You can embed your PowerPoint by hosting it on Google Slides or by saving it as a PDF and then uploading it to Scribd, which will give you a secure embed code.

  • Learners can play the audio while manually advancing the slides.

Simple image slides

  • Create a very simple slideshow with the Carousel Block. Learners will be able to advance at their own pace through a series of images or slides that you upload.

Recommended embed settings

Embed from Google Slides

Select "File," then "Publish to the Web," and then "Publish." A link and full embed code will be provided after you publish. You can add either the URL or full embed code to the Embed Anything Block in Pathwright.

Embed from Scribd

Save your presentation as a PDF and upload it to Scribd here: https://www.scribd.com/upload-document. Make your file private, and use the "Slideshow" type under embed options. You can add either the URL or full embed code to the Embed Anything Block in Pathwright.

Don't see your particular slide program mentioned? Other types of presentations can be embedded as long as they provide a secure (https) embed code. If you need more help, contact us.
